Late last year, Microsoft announced that its Edge browser would be coming to macOS, but without a timeline. Now, the Canary and Dev builds of the Chromium-based Edge browser have leaked before Microsoft’s official announcement and are available to download from the company’s servers.
- The new Microsoft Edge is based on Chromium and will be released January 15, 2020. It's compatible with all supported versions of Windows, and with macOS (version 10.12 Sierra or higher). When you download this browser, it replaces the legacy version of Microsoft Edge on Windows 10 PCs.
- May 20, 2019 Microsoft's Edge browswer for macOS is now available. The Canary and Dev builds are now live and free to download from the company's servers.
- The Microsoft Edge DevTools app introduces basic support for debugging pages on a remote machine via our newly released DevTools Protocol. With the latest release comes remote access to core functionality in the Debugger, Elements (for read-only operations), and Console panels.
Update 5/20: Microsoft has officially launched Edge for macOS today. While both the leaked download links below for the Canary and Dev builds are still live, Microsoft is starting with support for the daily Canary builds for now with the official Dev release support arriving soon. A public beta will also land at some point in the future. In its announcement, Microsoft also highlighted how important user feedback is to improve the browser.

Microsoft briefly teased the macOS version of its Edge browser yesterday at its Build 2019 developer conference but again didn’t share a release date. However, as reported by The Verge, Twitter user WalkingCat discovered and leaked the download links for the Canary and Dev builds of Edge for macOS hosted on Microsoft’s servers.

This Chromium-based version of Edge will bring features like Touch Bar support with media controls and tab switching like Safari. New privacy controls and a tool for easily collecting images and text from the web haven’t yet made their way from the Windows version to macOS, but should be arriving sometime in the future.
